About the Company and History The enterprise was founded in Tuttlingen, Germany, in 1867 by Gottfried Jetter, a qualified cutler who originally started it as a small workshop for surgical instruments. In 1887, Jetter’s brothers-in-law (Wilhelm and Karl Christian Scheerer) joined as partners, leading to the corporate name Jetter & Scheerer. In 1889, the company registered its iconic trademark featuring the stylised Staff of Aesculapius (a snake winding around a medical staff) surmounted by a crown. The trademark draws from the ancient Greek god of medicine, Asclepius. The brand name Aesculap was officially registered later in 1900. Tuttlingen quickly became a world-renowned global hub for medical technology. Aesculap expanded rapidly, opening international branches in major cities like New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo by the turn of the 20th century. The company grew to become one of the largest and most respected manufacturers of surgical and medical instruments in the world.

The kit measures 13.7cm (5.4") across when closed.
