A Victorian leather‑cased glass minim measure made by H. Gilbertson & Sons of London, dating to around 1870.

The small cylindrical glass is finely graduated in minims for accurate dosing of liquid medicines, and sits snugly inside its original engine‑turned leather case with a deep coloured lining. The lid is gilt‑stamped “MINIM MEASURE”, while the base reads “H. GILBERTSON & SONS LONDON”, a well‑known 19th‑century supplier of medical and pharmacy glassware. The minim measure was an apothecary unit where 60 minims equal one fluid drachm, used for precise dosing of potent medicines.

These compact measures were carried by doctors and pharmacists to measure tiny, potent doses such as laudanum or digitalis, making this a lovely piece of medical and apothecary history. It displays beautifully alongside other antique medical instruments, travelling medicine chests or pharmacy bottles, and would make an excellent gift for a collector.

Condition: glass minim measure present and free from major chips; hand etched graduations still clear; leather case sound with age‑related rubbing and wear, consistent with careful use.

Diameter: 2.7cm (1"), height: 5cm (2").
