A pair of original watercolour paintings by English artist, Charles Edward Brittan (1870–1949), he exhibited widely in the UK and his works are represented in several notable galleries, institutional and private collections, including the Royal collection.
This charming pair are offered together as they complement each other so well, whilst dating from the early 20th century the colours remain bright and vibrant showcasing the artists mastery of the medium. Both have been recently framed in tasteful contemporary frames and both are also clearly signed.
Brittan exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy (London) and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI), where he was regularly shown throughout the early 20th century. He also exhibited at galleries including Arthur Ackerman & Son (Bond Street), Graves Gallery (Sloane Square), and regional venues across Devon and Cornwall.
Queen Mary and the Duke of Windsor are documented to have acquired Brittan’s Dartmoor landscapes for the Royal Collection. Works by Brittan are held in private collections throughout the UK, especially in Devon, Cornwall, and Scotland, regions where he often painted and exhibited.
