An original 17th century document the 6th May 1644 hand written on vellum with wax seal. The document signed and sealed by a James and Mary Halfoy is a legal document concerning property, it is handwritten in a uncial script in sepia ink which is clear and legible, the opening line reads "This Indenture made the sixth day of May in the twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith.......". The practise at the time was still to record the date by reference to the reigning monarch, this ceased to be the case by the end of the 18th century.

The scalloped top edge was a practise used when more than one copy existed, all had the scalloped edge cut at the same time so that by overlaying one over another at a later date if the edges matched then they could be confirmed as being legitimate.

The document remains clear and robust as vellum is much more hard wearing than paper.

A treasured and unique collectable or  a magnificent display piece.

The document measures  65 x 51cm (25.5" x 20"). The document will be supplied folded along the original crease lines.
