A collection of original antique documents including:
A large four page indenture dated 1785 on a thick laid paper, scrupulously hand written, the titles being in a gothic script. The agreement was made between Hannah Sutton and John Harrison and William Harrison granting a 99 year lease on a ‘dwelling house’ at a rental of £49 per year. The document has a scalloped top edge, this was used as a security measure at the time and when copies were made, the top edge of all copies were cut together so that they could be matched up at a later date to verify authenticity.
An invoice dated 1795 for works undertaken to properties on the Synney Lane Estate, executed in a beautiful copperplate hand. The document is marked and creased but the text clear and legible.
A four page document concerning the grant of rights to various parties by the Honourable Viscount Chetwynd of Ireland in the Manor of Ashley in the County of Stafford in 1765. William Richard Chetwynd, 3rd Viscount Chetwynd (1684 – 1770) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1770. Chetwynd was returned unopposed with his brother Walter as Member of Parliament for Stafford at the 1715 general election and was appointed to office as a junior Lord of the Admiralty in 1717.
A four page document, a record of an interrogation for legal proceedings dated 1800, beautifully scribed.
A four page handwritten legal document dated 1792. The document grants the rights pertaining to a life policy of £1,000 (about £150,000/$190,000 today), to the Honourable Francis Chetwynd.
All five documents are original bearing marks and wear but clear and legible, they represent a unique and fascinating view of history which would also make an interesting display pieces. The sepia ink used is light sensitive so if framing please display under anti UV glass. The documents will be delivered flat with no more than one fold, or in a postal tube.
