A fine late‑Victorian / Edwardian clinical thermometer by the renowned London maker J. Hicks, 8, 9 & 10 Hatton Garden, London. Hicks was one of the leading British manufacturers of thermometers and scientific instruments in the late 19th century and supplied hospitals and doctors throughout the Empire.

The slender mercury‑in‑glass thermometer is hand‑engraved along the stem with the Hicks address and carries a clear Fahrenheit scale. It sits in its original protective tube with screw‑on cap, designed for a physician’s pocket or medical bag; the bulb end nests in the threaded cap for secure travel.
