A beautiful and delicately detailed Victorian inkwell that perfectly captures the charm of late 19th-century stationery design. While the base is made from a substantial, heavy cut glass block with beveled edges, the true centrepiece is the solid brass hinged lid, which features an intricate chased floral pattern.
This floral detailing suggests it was designed as a "Drawing Room" inkwell, intended to sit atop an elegant davenport or lady’s writing desk. The juxtaposition of the masculine, heavy glass and the feminine, ornate metalwork makes it a versatile and highly attractive desk accessory. It is substantial enough to be used as a paperweight while remaining elegant.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition. The brass retains a warm, aged patina that highlights the floral engraving, and the glass is free of any major chips or clouding.
The inkwell measures 6.3cm wide by 7.5cm high.
