A charming survivor of the Victorian "Golden Age of Travel." This hand-carved bone travel chess set dates to the late 19th century and was designed to be played in the swaying carriages of the Great Western Railway or on the decks of a steamship.

The set features beautifully detailed pieces carved from natural and madder-dyed bone. Each piece is equipped with a traditional "peg" base, ensuring the game stayed intact regardless of the journey's bumps. The set is housed in its original  wooden case.

Condition Note:
This set has been well-loved over the last 130 years. It is currently missing one white pawn; however, the remaining 31 pieces are in excellent condition with a wonderful aged patina.
