A Masterpiece of Scottish Optics – Precision Victorian Brass Microscope by the Renowned John Lizars.
An exceptional find for the collector of scientific instruments: a Scottish Compound Monocular Microscope by the esteemed J. Lizars of Glasgow. Dating to circa 1870, this instrument is a stunning survivor of the Victorian "Golden Age" of microscopy.
The microscope is constructed of heavy, polished brass and stands on a classic stable "Y" shaped foot, which is elegantly engraved on the reverse: "J. Lizars, Glasgow, 354."

The brass work retains its original lacquer with some tarnish, exhibiting a rich, warm patina. All mechanical movements (compass joint and fine focus) operate smoothly. The mahogany case is in excellent structural condition with a beautiful deep lustre, the original key is included which works the lock.
This is a significant piece of Scottish scientific heritage, perfect for a library, medical office, or a high-end Cabinet of Curiosities.
