A Rare 6-Section Brass Telescope with a ribbed wooden body and lens cap.
A wonderful example of mid-19th-century optical engineering. This Victorian "Pocket" Spyglass features an impressive six-draw construction, allowing a powerful 53.4cm telescope to collapse down to a mere 13cm.
Originally designed for travellers, hikers, or theatre-goers, this all-brass instrument represents the Victorian obsession with miniaturising high-quality scientific tools. The brass has aged to a beautiful deep patina, left unpolished to preserve its historic character.
Specifications:
Extended Length: 53.4cm (approx. 21 inches).
Closed Length: 13cm (approx. 5 inches).
Construction: Six precision-fitted brass draw tubes.
Era: Mid-Victorian (c. 1850–1870).
Condition Report:
The telescope is in excellent mechanical condition. All six draws slide smoothly and hold their position firmly. The optics are clear, and the brass shows a lovely, honest wear consistent with age.
A perfect addition to a scientific instrument collection, or a unique nautical accent for a library or study.
