Four antique surgical Tracheostomy Dilators, two with inserting rods, all components silver, each Dilator contains a Cannula.The Dilators are marked "Mayer & Phelps" and "Silver". Used as a breathing channel following a Tracheotomy. All date from the 19th century. All four are silver which was used for it's anti bacterial properties. They all measure 8cm (3.1") around the curve to the plate. These items are in good solid condition and are supplied in their original carton, worn but solid. The catalogue illustration is taken from the Maw and Sons catalogue dated 1870.
The total weight of the silver is 132 grams.
Items such as this are becoming increasingly rare as they were made in very small numbers to the highest quality standards as price was not the primary concern, most good examples are now in museum and private collections.
