An original signed watercolour painting by Edmund Morison Wimperis (British, 1835-1900), Figure by a Stream with bridge and uplands beyond. Wimperis illustrated novels by Charlotte Brontë, and supplied works for The Illustrated London News, he exhibited from 1859, at leading London venues that included the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Grosvenor Gallery and the New Gallery and took part in the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris as part of the 1889 Exposition Universelle, and won a bronze medal. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1873, and a full member in 1875, a decade later, he began to serve as its Vice President

His work is represented in numerous public collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery.
