An antique solid mahogany apothecary chest. Dating to the early 19th century, this portable pharmacy is a stunning blend of fine cabinetry and scientific history.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a removable, fitted tray housing a glass syringe in a treen case and a glass measuring jug with hand cut gradations. Beneath these lies a deep storage well containing four glass eye baths. Surrounding the tray are a collection of glass apothecary bottles of differing shapes and sizes, some with hand cut stoppers and one with an original label.
The case is in good solid, antique condition with a pleasing patina and marks from age and use, the interior is felt lined with a padded felt inside lid, there are two brass handles and a brass key plate, the ket turns in the lock but does not operate it.
Condition Report:
This piece is in excellent antique condition. The mahogany has a deep, lustrous glow developed over nearly 200 years. All internal dividers are intact. An evocative and rare survivor, perfect as a centrepiece for a library, study, or medical history collection.
The case measures 27.5 x 15 x 14.2cm (10.83" x 5.9" x 5.6").
