A large antique French enema syringe or pump fashioned from pewter with a fruit wood plunger, designed for self administration it comes from a time when enemas were a mainstay of medicine. This enema syringe, also known as a Clyster, reflects the early nineteenth-century belief in the benefits of purging the body on a regular basis. The French title is "Clystère soi-même ' reflecting the self administration aspect.
The syringe easily disassembles and reassembles and all parts appear to be in good working order - this item will be disassembled into two parts for shipping. This is a substantial and solid item.
The syringe stands 34.5cm (13.58") high and the body has a diameter of 7cm (2.75").
