Antique scale or balance by Down Brothers of London dating from 1890. This is a complete dispensing scale including all the accessory weights. There are two small containers for the weights, one for Drachm weights and the other for Grain weights, additional glass scale pans, a lens and wax block. The glass pans were used for the medicines and the brass pan for the weights, the additional glass pans meant that the Apothecary could measure several medicines at a time whilst making a potion.

The scale is in good original order and includes the Down Brothers brass plate, the box is mahogany with an ebony handle and the components brass, one cross piece under the glass scale is a later replacement.
