A pair of antique cased gold filled glasses marked 'Thomas Armstrong & Bro Ltd opticians to the Royal Eye Hospital 78 Deansgate Manchester' a highly respected Manchester-based firm of opticians and scientific instrument makers. The glasses date from 1920-1930 and are in very good condition complete with their flip top case.

 

Thomas Armstrong & Brother Ltd was founded in 1825 by Joseph Armstrong at 88 Deansgate, Manchester, Thomas Armstrong & Brother was established circa 1858 when sons Thomas and George Booth Armstrong took over the business by 1860, they had opened at 80 Deansgate and expanded into optical supplies later becoming the official opticians to the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

 

The case measures 12.5cm (5") in length.
