A fine late‑Victorian apothecary / jeweller’s balance in its original mahogany travelling case, complete with brass beam, twin cellulose pans, tweezers and a full complement of graduated brass and white‑metal gram weights. The lid interior is lined in rich purple velvet, while the base tray is crisply fitted with turned wooden weight covers and pockets for the smallest foil‑type fractional weights, as used by apothecaries and jewellers at the time.

The balance assembles neatly on its removable brass pillar and hook, and dismounts to pack flat into the case for travel; all parts are original and present, with only the expected light wear, minor spotting and age toning from over a century of careful use. A handsome and fully displayable scientific instrument, ideal for a pharmacy, jewellery or curiosities collection, and increasingly hard to find this complete.”

A truly beautiful and rare item, complete and original.

The case measures 17 x 13.7 x 3cm (6.7" x 5.4" x 1.2") and the balance stands 29cm (11.4") when assembled.

Antique apothecary balance, cased, with weights.
