Two antique silver catheters. Silver was used for it's anti bacterial properties to protect against infection. The smaller one measures 16.5cm (6.5") in length when extended. The spout was used to drain, the holes at the tip collected the fluid, catheters are used to drain the bladder. Both are silver one is hallmarked for London 1863.

 

Items such as this are becoming increasingly rare as they were made in very small numbers to the highest quality standards as price was not the primary concern, most good examples are now in museums and private collections.
