Antique Jaques games compendium including a Jaques Staunton chess set dating from 1880.
If you are interested in this compendium you are probably familiar with Jaques chess sets but if not allow me to add that Jaques sets are the 'gold standard' for chess sets and highly sought after. This is a weighted small Club set in Boxwood and Ebony, the white King is stamped 'Jaques London' and the King side Rooks and Castles stamped with the Jaques crown logo (please note that the red paint has worn away on the logo on the white Rook but the imprint is clearly there), these marks confirming authenticity and date. All the bases have green felt. The black Queen has a small repair and one black Pawn has a chip to the shoulder, we can find no other damage. This is a very rare and highly collectable set, if you require photo's of anything not shown here, please ask. The King stands 7.5cm (3") high and the base 3.3cm (1.3"), in diameter. The chess board is vintage and post dates the compendium.
