A canvas military surgical roll with mixed instruments, dating from the First World War period (c. 1914–1920). This coarse khaki canvas roll with stitched pockets and tie tapes is typical of British and Commonwealth field and regimental pannier instrument rolls produced for WW1.
The instruments date from the late‑19th century and early‑20th century and the presence of civilian‑pattern razors, one marked for G. T. Gurr and the other Mappin & Webb, is consistent with many wartime rolls that were part‑official and part‑privately supplemented by the surgeon.
