Khātam is the ancient Persian technique of inlaying, it is a version of marquetry where art forms are made by decorating the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal precisely-cut intricate geometric patterns. This. is a very intricate process with sometimes 400 pieces in a square inch.

This is a vintage example with corner protectors and a tape edge, it has been resin sealed, there is a slight bowing across the length, the squares measure 3.5 x 3.5cm.
