Medical. A vintage Invalid Feeder, also known as Pap Boats, the word 'Pap' coming from the sound made by a baby absorbing food.
Invalid Feeders were used throughout the 19th century and well into the 20th century to aid in the feeding of patients that were too weak to feed themselves and in feeding infants. The use of invalid and infant feeders was much more popular in Europe than in the United States. The 'Pap' generally consisted of flour, bread and water mixed together to create a gruel that was fed to the patient, it might also have been more liquid nutrition.
Dating from the 1930's or possibly a little earlier, measuring 18cm in length it is in good unmarked condition.
