A rare set of three Dental instruments by J. D. Chevalier & Sons dating from around 1860. The tools are steel, the ferrules gold plated brass or possibly gold, Chevalier is known to have used both, and the handles are made from Mother of Pearl. The instruments measure 15cm (6") in length.

These are extremely rare and high quality items, very few were ever made and it is inconceivable to imagine that a functional tools such as this would ever be made to this quality standard after the 19th century.

John D. Chevalier was Swiss by birth but ran his business in New York from 1833, he had, as part of his business strategy, the idea to sell quite extravagant and beautiful dental tools to make his mark in the rapidly expanding dental market in America at that time.
