An original 17th century document from 1651 hand written on vellum.

 

The document reads:

‘In the court Baron of Sir George Whitmore knight and Sir John Webb the Elder, knight, on 8th January 1651 before Stephen Tottenham under-steward. Surrender by Thomas Goold of Bradley late deceased, into the hands of the Lord by Thomas Billingshay and Richard Billingshay to the use of Thomas Horrome and William Goode brother of the late Thomas Goold. Of half of a message and one yardland with appurtenances in Bradley. The Herriot due was deceased’s best beast was a black oxe. A fine of 10s was paid for entry.’.

The court Baron was the principal type of manorial court. Sir George Whitmore was Lord Mayor of London in 1631.

The document remains clear and robust as vellum is much more hard wearing than paper.

The document measures  32 x 20cm (12.6" x 7.87"). The document will be supplied folded along the original crease lines.
