An antique writing slope, brass bound walnut also including a dip pen. The box opens to reveal the gilt edged leather writing slope, the pen tray includes a dip pen, with recesses at both ends. The key is not original and does not work the lock but included for decorative effect. The secret compartment is accessed by pulling up the left hand divider, it's a little temperamental but releases the panel below to access the three drawers. 
 
This is a really beautiful and substantial box, an elegant functional item which is decorative too, it is in good functional condition, with beautiful patination, the cartouche is vacant.
