An early Victorian Apothecary or Medicine Chest English, c.1850, the case constructed polished wood with recessed campaign style brass handles and a vacant brass cartouche. The lid is lined with blue crushed velvet and opens to reveal 9 glass bottles and a measuring jar in a fitted case. The drawer in the base is released by removing the locking pin, accessed when the lid is open, the drawer contains a tray with brass hand scales and weights and four further glass bottles behind, to the front two lids slide to access the voids below, on one side a glass pestle and mortar and a small metal funnel on the other. 3 glass rims are chipped and the key fits but does not turn the lock otherwise in good original condition with an exceptional patina.

 

The case measures  26.5 x 23.5 x 19.5cm (10.43" x 9.25" x 7.68"), (w x h x d) and weighs 5.1kg (11.24lbs).
