A substantial Georgian walnut stationery box including a secret drawer, inkwell and documents. Dating from the early 19th century so approximately 200 years old this is a large and heavy item, there is a key which fits, but does not work the lock. The patina is exceptional, borne of great age, the two doors open to reveal the interior, a series of storage spaces of varying depths, included here are a number of documents, mainly 19th century but also a complete copy of the Times newspaper from 1840, additionally two spoons, one silver, stamps, a dip pen and some nibs. The pen tray opens to access a space below as does the top. The slide out white tile inside the right hand door is ceramic.
A beautiful, and at this size, rare, stationery box that is a beautiful decorative item as well as remaining functional.
The secret drawer is spring loaded and released by pressing the brass button inside at the top.
In good solid condition with minor chips to the veneer in two places which can be seen in the photographs.
