A Victorian Half Plate English Field Camera, 19th century. The camera is constructed of French polished mahogany and lacquered brass parts. A small celluloid plaque reads "Photographic Department A & N Auxiliary. C. S. Ld, Francis Street, London", it has a brass bound lens engraved Ross, London, complete with small leather case containing waterhouse stops and two mahogany plate holders. The "A & N" referred to is the Army & Navy Stores, a department store group which originated as a co-operative society for military officers and their families during the nineteenth century.
The camera measures 21 x 20 x 20cm (8.27" x 7.87" x 7.87") when open.
