An antique treen wood spoon carved in a naive style in a light weight wood and with Mother of Pearl inlays, 23cm in length. Despite the naive style the detailed carving is particularly fine, most notably on the finial which has a rope design so delicate that it is barely discernible with the naked eye.

In the days before functional objects were routinely made from metal, wood was the preferred medium, such objects collectively being known as Treen. Wealthy customers would be able to commission items from the most skilled craftsmen and the best quality woods. Genuine Treen will have a beautiful patina from age and generations of use.
