A cased set of Victorian silver plated berry serving spoons with silver gilt bowls in a leather case, antique cutlery. The spoons bear a registered design diamond to the reverse allowing us to date them to 1878. The spoons have hand engraved handles and hand chased and gilt bowls. The gilt coating was added for both aesthetic and practical purposes, the practical purpose being to protect the silver plate from degradation from the acidity of some fruits.
The case measures 26 x 11 x 4cm (10.25" x 4.33" x 1.57"), the berry spoons are 23.5cm (9.25") in length. The case closes with a positive click.
