Original antique signed etching 'The Chess Players', by Luke Taylor R.E. circa 1915, signed in pencil bottom right, proof copy on parchment. The parchment size is 350 x 295mm, 13.75" x 11.5", the size within the plate impression is 30.2cm x 22.7cm (12" x 9"). With a remarque of a white knight chess piece in the margin, remarques were removed before the print run. The etching is clean within the plate impression area but with some marks in the outer margins and a very small hole top left in the outer margin, there are some additional printers annotations in pencil bottom right. Wall art.

The work shows a pair of French chess players in 18th century costume, adapted from a painting by Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier.

Taylor was born on the 20th September 1876 and died of his wounds on 3rd June 1916.
