A wonderfully evocative piece of 19th-century medical history. This large 26cm pewter syringe represents the era of "heroic medicine," predating the widespread use of brass and chrome surgical instruments.
The syringe is cast from heavy-gauge pewter and features a traditional ring-pull plunger and a distinctive curved nozzle. This design was a staple of mid-Victorian clinical and home care, used primarily for irrigation and the treatment of contemporary ailments. Unlike later industrial pieces, this syringe has a beautiful, soft matte lustre and a substantial weight that only genuine antique pewter provides.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition for a soft-metal instrument. The barrel remains straight, and the curved nozzle is intact with no significant crushing. The pewter has developed a deep, authentic grey patina that has not been over-polished.
Dimensions: 26cm (Full Length)
