An antique Surgeons Instrument Case dating from around 1910 and completely full of the original instruments in three drawers, most of the instruments date from around the same time but some are later and some earlier. The case is marked for Down Brothers and we include an entry from their catalogue of 1910 showing the, very similar, case, one lock works ok, the other does not. The case is leather, the front folding down to reveal the three drawers of instruments. There is a name tag in the lid of the case reading 'K. G. Rotter 27 Wimpole Street, London W1'. The array of instruments in enormous so we will list some of the highlights here:

 

A Tracheostomy kit in a fabric roll containing a wide range of instruments including a number of Cannulas in brass and solid silver as well as an array of other associated instruments.
An Amputation Saw. 
A Victorian copper Bone Hammer.
A Microscope.
A Metal Syringe.
A very large collection of over 40 instruments, mainly Forceps each with a different specialist purpose.

Two cases of Suture Needles, one metal, one leather.
A brass Magnifying Glass on a tripod base.
5 Metal cased syringes including a Record example.
An Allen & Hanbury's metal case including examination mirrors and probes.
 
The case measures  37 x 30 x 17.5cm (14.56" x 11.81" x 6.89"), (w x h x d) and weighs 9.3kg.
