A large antique French enema syringe or pump fashioned from pewter with a fruit wood plunger, it comes from a time when enemas were a mainstay of medicine. This enema syringe, also known as a Clyster, reflects the early nineteenth-century belief in the benefits of purging the body on a regular basis.
The syringe easily disassembles and reassembles and all parts appear to be in good working order, this is a substantial and solid item.
