An antique field syringe by Allen & Hanburys of London, the syringe is a Luc syringe of glass and steel and with a metal plunger, in good order. Dating from the late 19th or possibly early 20th century, the gradations on the syringe are hand painted, the set contains an unusual double ended needle case designed to store and protect the needles.

 

Allen & Hanburys, was a well-known pharmaceutical company with a rich history rooted in the 17th century. Founded in 1715, it began as a pharmacy in Old Plough Court, London, offering medical advice and medicinal products. Over the years, the company expanded into manufacturing pharmaceutical goods, surgical instruments, and even foods, eventually becoming a significant player in the British pharmaceutical industry. It was acquired by Glaxo Laboratories Ltd in 1968.
