A set of four early 19th century dental tools fashioned from steel with ebony handles, all in good solid condition but with tarnish to the steel, one is marked "Savigny", John Savigny was London based and started his business in 1720. The catalogue page is taken from the Arnold & Son catalogue and shows a dental elevator of similar type to two of those offered here. Dental elevators were used to accurately separate teeth from the anchoring bone. Three of the instruments have cross hatched, or part cross hatched, grips.
Items such as this are rare as they were made in very small numbers to the highest quality standards as price was not the primary concern, most good examples are now in museums and private collections.
