An antique field syringe also known as a pocket syringe, in a brass case and leather sleeve. This is a very neat little piece of medical history and these were known to have been for both civilian and military use.

The two part leather sleeve opens to reveal the brass clam shell case, this opens to access the syringe and needle. The syringe is glass, the metal body being stamped with "BURROUGHS WELLCOME & CO Rd 310988" on one side and on the opposite side "LONDON, NEW YORK and SYDNEY, MADE IN BERLIN", it has a screw mechanism which was used to adjust the dose. The inside of the case lid bears the registered design number "310795", the gradations on the glass in the syringe can be seen to have been hand painted.

The registered design numbers date this item to 1897, clearly Burroughs Wellcome registered both the syringe and the case as separate designs that they wishes to protect.

A beautiful and rare collectable item.

The case measures 8.6cm (3.39") in length.

Antique brass cased field syringe dated 1897.
