A hand carved antique bone chess set in it's box with key (the key does not work the lock). The box decor is of a classical scene, but very worn, surrounded by inlay. The white chess pieces are natural bone and the red, dyed bone. The King stands 6.6cm (2.5") high and the base 2.5cm (1"), in diameter. The chess set is complete but please read the detailed comments below, also included are an amount of bone counters and a chess board; the chess box, pieces and counters are all original and dating from the early 19th century, the board is much later, being vintage.
 
The chess set is complete but there are differences in the pieces notably, the white and red Castles are different, one red Knight differs and the Pawns, whilst all similar, are not identical. 
 
The box measures 23 x 13.5 x 6.7cm, the board measures 49 x 49cm and the squares 4.1cm.
